Mother abandoned her with maternal grandmother where she was malnurished. Father was an acrobat and took her away from her grandmother to live with his mother, who ran a brothel. Set out with father to perform but left him because he was aggressive and abusive. Edith was discovered by
Louis Leplée, who owned a famous club. Her opening night was a success and she recorded two albums that year.

Edith was French Chanson/ Cabaret singer. Eartha Kitt is her American equal. Eartha Kitt produced Santa Baby, I want to be evil, and Just an Old Fashioned Girl
