Three Things I Learned From This Article

1. Lack of Recognition

• Students today do not recognize that the use of technology can have real consequences if not used ethically
• Decision making online is as important as decision making in daily life

2. Lack of Education

• It is astounding that students are not exposed to more education when it comes to digital ethics
• All programs, not just technology programs, need to have digital morality embedded into the curriculum

3. Harassment

• The percentage of students today that have been threatened or harassed by someone is very high
• Many students don't see the seriousness of harassing behavior online
• Most students will not act when they see someone else being unethical online

Two Ways the Article is Related to my District's Policy

1. Cyber bullying

• My district has a written policy regarding cyber bullying.
• There is no tolerance policy against online harassment of any kind
• Students are given an 800 number to report any form of online harassment towards them or another student

2. Online Ethics Curriculum

• My district is making an effort to catch up in the area of digital ethics
• A curriculum has been mandated to be taught at every school concerning online morality
• Policies are being rewritten to address cyber bullying and harassment

One Thing I Would Like to Implement

• I would like to implement new curriculum's dedicated to online morals
• I would like to require all seniors to take an advanced class on digital ethics
• I would like to require more education pertaining to the dangers of online privacy

Standard 8

• Indicator 4 specifically relates to technology
• Ethical and legal conduct must be adhered to at all times
• Education must catch up to the students of today pertaining to technology and the safe usage of technology
