PRESENTATION OUTLINE

HYDROGEN AS FUEL

HYDROGEN

  • Potential fuel.
  • The heat combustion is 2.5 times more than natural gas.
  • Advantage over fossil fuel because only product is water.

PROBLEMS

  • Cost
  • Storage
  • Transport

COST

  • Current way to acquire Hydrogen is to treat natural gas with steam.
  • CH4+H2O=>3H2+CO
  • Reaction takes 206 kJ which is not efficient.

COST FIX

  • Electrolysis.
  • Thermal decomposition.

STORAGE AND TRANSPORTATION

  • On metal surfaces the H2 molecule decomposes into atoms.
  • Per unit volume of hydrogen is only 1/3 of methanes.
