What is a Mu'adhin???

A Mu'ahin is the one who calls people to prayer (adhan).

Bilal (ra) was the first Mu'adhin. Abducted as a infant and enslaved by pagan traders in pre-Islamic Mecca. Bilal became a local of Abyssinia (now Ethiopia). As an adult, while still enslaved, he became tutored withinside the new religion of Islam via way of means of the service provider Abu Bakr, a convert and near companion of the prophet Muhammad.

Some Facts About Bilal (ra)

  • Bilal (ra) was on of the first to turn to Islam from 580 to 640
  • Prophet Muhammad(saw) was the one who asked Bilal (ra) to recite the adhan.
  • Because Bilal (ra) was "black" he was kept a slave, but when he converted to a Muslim, he was tortured really badly.
  • Bilal (ra)'s punishment ended when he started living a free life as a Muslim.
  • Bilal (ra)'s mom was taken away and sold as a slave.
