In the article, “Obsessive Love Disorder” by Kristeen Cherney she explains how Obsessive Love Disorder (or O.L.D) can negatively affect both the person with O.L.D and the person on the receiving end. She also talks about many of the symptoms of the Disorder. Cherney states that a person with O.L.D may feel “the need to ‘protect’ the person [they’re] in love with”(Cherney). This as well as other symptoms cause people with O.L. D to struggle with rejection.

In George Lucas’ “Star Wars: Episode III- Revenge of the Sith” Anakin Skywalker is a young Jedi who has a dream about his wife Padme Amidala dying and he is horrified. Then when Chancellor Palpatine, the head of the Senate, tells him about a dark side power that can bring people back to life Anakin descents into an obsession of trying to protect his wife from death. His obsession of trying to protect the women he is in love with will lead to the destruction of both himself by falling to the dark side and ultimately he is responsible for the death of his wife. Anakin Skywalker is a great parallel to a person with O.L.D because his obsession with protecting his wife will ultimately cause more damage than if he just let things play out without him intervening.
