From Chuck * all digital options are available when using an audio interface. * using signal link you can use packet or flidigi or what ever program you choose. * You can choose a dedicated packet hardware. * Flidigi does have an ARQ option or any of the other digital options free and currently update-able and multi-platform. * Field users don't have to use FLDigi as long as the program they use has the digital protocols that are standard on the the ham bands. Oliva/PSK/Throb/Thor/RTTY all have to be decoded pretty much the same way.
Four Opinions: 1. We should choose based on the ability to communicate within and outside the county. 2. I think RMS winlink through HF should be considered because it reaches into and out of the county. 3. I also think the FLDIGI is a better option because it is free/easy to get running/multiplatform/reverse backward capable/multiple options as how to send a message. (HF or VHF {including repeater operations} extensively tested in other states) 4. I don't think that there is enough packet gear around that can be used and most new hams will not have packet equipment where a higher percentage might own gear capable of psk/digital operations which means a lower training curve then compared to packet. (not enough facts just an opinion)
