A selection of the media stories about Room 21 along the way:
Carl Smith from ABC’s Behind the News visited late April. We had a great day discussing national park design, working in teams, using Minecraft as a design tool then being interviewed by Behind The News for the students’ early thoughts on the project – as a BtN news story on ABC3. It was interesting to see 3 hours of filming edited down to 3 minutes – but it’s great. Our segment starts just after the 10 minute mark. 20150505 ABC BtN.mp4 *** 81.88 MB
The ABC has developed a BtN teacher resource for the episode – our was used to help other students across Australia learn about designing national parks. The resource can be found at

Then 170+ students around Australia went onto the discuss the project:

· Late May the story then left our shores and appeared re-packaged on the BBC in the UK (under arrangement with the ABC). I don’t have the actual file, but you read the story and watch the video at
http://www.bbc.co.uk/newsround/32847385The class was again on ABC 3 News in July. Research from the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) shows teachers should use the hugely popular children's digital game Minecraft to help teach maths, design, art and geography. To explain on ABC 3 News (a news show for children), ABC journalist Carl Smith used some of the footage he made when he visited our class earlier this year. My kids watch ABC 3 News every night and the segment was a complete surprise. You probably heard the excited screams from our house. It was even shorter than the earlier BtN segment, so less students, but still included Linden Park Primary School minecrafters. It is the first story. 20150708 ABC Behind The News - Research re Minecraft in Classrooms.mp4 33.29 MB. By the way, if you are interested in the university research, more information can be found at:
