PRESENTATION OUTLINE

Coffea Arabica

Together As One for TIE2015

Coffea Arabica is the name of the plant whose seeds are used to produce coffee, probably the most popular drink in the world.

It's the earliest cultivated
type of coffee plant
and it is still
the most widely grown today.

Almost 70% of the world's coffee is produced from Coffea Arabica.
About 20% is produced from Coffea Canephora (Robusta).

Native to Ethiopia, Coffea Arabica grows in tropical and equatorial regions.

Its white flowers start to bloom at the beginning of the rainy season.

The fruits, called cherries, start to appear after eight or nine months. At first they are green, then turn to red when they are ripe.

Each cherry contains
two seeds,
called "coffee beans".

When only one bean develops in a cherry, it is called "peaberry".

The cherries are picked, often manually, and the seeds are extracted.

The seeds extracted from the cherries are called "green coffee beans".

The coffee beans are then roasted and change their colour into the
well-known dark brown.
