On People

  • Every company has a corporate culture
  • Creating the corporate culture is NOT the CEO's job
  • Ensuring a corporate culture flourishes IS the CEO's job
  • People are NOT the company's most important asset
  • Trust and respect are the foundation of good culture

On Companies

  • Fundamental for built to last: hire well and fire well
  • Diversity is necessary for success
  • A successful company is extraordinary in three ways
  • Culture trumps policy every time
  • Hire for intelligence, judgement, loyalty, and integrity

On Communication

  • Organizational walls grow organically
  • Conducting meetings is hard but essential
  • Unless FYI, an email contains only 1 TO recipient
  • When people stop telling you the truth, you've failed
  • Seek first to understand, then to be understood

On Leadership

  • Everyone must lead, manage, and do
  • Work yourself out of a job
  • The best decisions are made in the field
  • No one knows, a priori, what data will be necessary
  • If you have enough information, something's wrong

On Managing

  • There is no such thing as "not your job"
  • There is no such thing as "not my job"
  • Everything is a process
  • Process can be bureaucracy-free
  • Effectiveness trumps efficiency every time

This is a multiline slide. I'm going to do a backspace now after I've typed few lines of text. I can't reproduce it
