St. Therese

“The Little Flower”

St. Therese was born in Alençon, France on January 2, 1873 to her parents Louis Martin and Marie-Azélli Guérin-Martin

St. Therese had eight siblings. Four survived to adulthood. While the other four died at very young ages.

All four of her older sisters that survived to adulthood became nuns

St. Therese was called “The Little Flower” because she believed in small actions and gestures of kindness and love

She is depicted as a little flower in God’s garden

In French she is called “la petite Thérèse”

Despite many portraits depicting her with brown hair she actually had blonde curly hair and blue eyes.

After being a nun for 9 years St. Therese of Lisieux died Sep. 30, 1897 at the young age of 24 in Lisieux, France.

She died of tuberculosis but refused to be sad she was cheerful and hopeful tuntil the end.
