The article, “Why Criticism lasts longer than praise” by Sarah Griffiths, argues how negative feedback is so common these days and how all these comments affects our morale as we weren’t made to handle these types of cruel criticism. This article can be found on Safari and Google. In this article, Griffths discusses some of the ways of how society’s negative feedback have become so dangerous, affecting the way we see ourselves and the way we see others like friends or family. As human nature, the negative comments stick swith us longer, as it makes us insecure, leading to pressure for wanting to fix the part that bothers us the most.

Conclusion/relation to the Scarlet Letter:

In conclusion, this article shows relation to the book “Scarelet Letter” by showing how the people around us speak nonsense or in other words negative comments. In chapter 2 of the story, it is first shown when Hester Prynne was publicly humiliated as a punishment for her sin of adultury. She stood on the scaffold, hearing the crowd shame her, as if they have not sinned themselves before. Even though at the time, she was not fully sad, tho she was still embarrassed and ashamed of what her parents and her younger self would think of her. Lastly, in chapter 7, another example of how comments can be negative are the rumors of Pearl(her daughter) being taken away by the townspeople. Not only are theese comments inappropriate, but sets anger and sadness towards Hester, who loves her daughter with all of her heart and would do anything for her. They mocked Pearl, calling her the same as her sinful mom, bashing her name as she is just a kid with no intensions of hurting anyone. Not only are these actions of the leaders cruel but also sad on how comfortable they think it is to affect a human being’s mental health and their way of thinking towards life.
