WHAT IS IT?

  • Wind is a renewable resource.
  • It is the natural movement of air in a certain direction.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

  • Wind blows because of the rotation of the earth.
  • It also is also made by the cold and warm air mixing.
  • The pressure (gravity) also causes wind to occur.

HISTORY OF WIND

  • It would propel boats along water sources.
  • It helped the Persians pump water.
  • Propelled wind mills.

WHERE IS IT FOUND?

  • Wherever there is temperature change and gravity.
  • Everywhere on earth

HOW WAS IT RECOVERED?

  • People created wind mills and wind turbines to preserve energy by making energy out of the wind captured.

HOW IS IT STORED AFTER RECOVERY?

  • In batteries after it is captured by the wind turbines.
  • Hydrogen fuel cells
  • Compressed air storage

HOW IS IT USED?

  • It allows people to go boating without a motor.
  • It spins wind turbines making energy.
  • It can also be used for sense of direction.

IS IT EFFICIENT?

  • Yes, because it is natural and it will never go away for good.
  • It also doesn't have a negative impact on the environment and it does not cost much to convert to energy.

CAPITAL COSTS

  • Wind itself is free so it has no fuel cost.
  • When it is converted to energy it costs $1940 per kW
  • 75% of the total cost for wind energy is spent on equipment and setup. The rest is maintenance and storage.

SETUP COSTS

  • A wind turbine costs about $48,000 to install.
  • The equipment itself costs about $40,000.

ONGOING OPERATING COSTS

  • 75% of the total cost for wind energy is spent on equipment and setup. The rest is for maintenance and storage of the energy.

ADVANTAGES OF USING WIND

  • It is natural
  • It is cheap
  • It is renewable
  • It is reliable and does not pollute the earth

DISADVANTAGES OF USING WIND

  • Trees can be cut down for space for the wind turbines
  • They can be noisy
  • The turbines are very visable
  • Birds can collide into a rotor blade and die.

ECONOMIC IMPACT

  • It is cheap compared to other sources of energy.
  • It allows you to save money in the long run because the majority of costs come in the beginning and after that they are cheap.

ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT

  • Compared to other sources of energy it has little impact on the enviroment
  • There is concerns about the death of birds crashing into to rotor blades.
  • There is also a concern of trees and fields being destroyed for room.

IS THERE A HIGH CONSUMER COST

  • No, the cost of wind energy is cheap compared to the other sources of energy.
  • The wind turbines do not cost much after they have been purchased and setup.

INTERESTING FACTS

  • Wind Mills have been used since 2000 B.C.
  • Wind power is the fastest growing energy source in the world.
  • One wind turbine can power 500 homes
  • Wind power uses virtually no water.

FUTURE OF WIND ENERGY

  • Wind energy will continue to grow.
  • With technological advancements and the limitless supply of wind the development will be unstoppable and keep getting better.
