Respiratory system
The major functions of this system is to take in oxygen and expel carbon dioxide

Untitled Slide

MAJOR ORGANS AND THEIR FUNCTIONS

  • Trachea- provides air flow to and from the lungs
  • Lungs- takes in oxygen
  • Diaphragm- main muscle of respiration and is attached to the spine ribs and sternum.

MAJOR ORGANS AND THEIR FUNCTIONS

  • Epiglottis- ensures that air passes into the trachea
  • Larynx- a passage way for air to enter into the lungs, and a source of vocalization
  • Vocal cords- is where the body exhales from

THE BREATHING PROCESS
Inhalation and exhalation Are the processes by which the body brings in oxygen and expels carbon dioxide.

TEAMWORK
The circulatory and respiratory work together to circulate blood and oxygen throughout the body. Air moves in and out of the lungs through the trachea, bronchi, and bronchioles. Blood moves in and out of the lungs through the pulmonary arteries and veins that connect to the heart.

FUN FACTS

  • The right lung is slightly larger than the the left
  • Hairs in the nose help to clean The air we breathe
  • The surface area of lungs is roughly the same size as a tennis court
  • Women and children breathe at a faster rate than men
  • Yawning is the result of your body not taking in enough oxygen
