Depletion Of The Ozone

No Description

PRESENTATION OUTLINE

OZONE

BY: CHASE BERGERON, MASON GOODMAN, DEMETRIOS MARIOLIS, ZAK NORCIA

WHAT IS OZONE?

  • Ozone is a gas that can form and react under the action of light and that is present in two layers of the atmosphere

EFFECTS ON HUMANS

  • High exposure to ozone can reduce lung function
  • Exposure to ozone can affect the lungs, the respiratory tract, and the eyes

EFFECTS ON CLIMATE AND WEATHER

  • Ozone generates heat in the stratosphere and by absorbing upwelling infrared radiation from the lower atmosphere (troposphere).
  • This takes place in the stratosphere by absorbing the sun's ultraviolet radiation
  • This will eventually let in more sunlight (UV rays) and increase the average temperature and lead to other problems

JOB OF THE OZONE

  • The ozone's job in the atmosphere is to absorb the sun's UV rays and keep it from harming us

EFFECTS ON THE ATMOSPHERE

  • Also known as "ozone holes"
  • UV rays being allowed through
  • Weakens and thins out the ozone layer

CAUSES

  • This is caused when large amounts of gas contaminated with chlorine appears in the enviornment
  • These gasses eventually raise up and are exposed to UV light which leads to the creation of chlorine atoms which depletes the ozone

WHAT WE CAN DO

  • Drive cars less or carpool
  • Don't use pesticides
  • Monitor what gasses are being used and when/where
