  • Before we can understand what happened in the past (history), we have to understand when it occurred
  • That means understanding our own calendar
  • The current year is 2019
  • But what does "2019" really mean?

  • 2019 means that it is 2,019 years since some event
  • The event that the modern calendar is based upon is the birth of Jesus Christ, calculated to be 2,019 years ago
  • So, if you were born in 2000, you were born 2,000 years after Jesus' birth
  • If you were born in 1980, you were born 1980 years after Jesus' birth
