Gardens in Japan are a very important type of artwork and they have been refined for more than 1000 years.

Stone, gravel, and sand are important elements of the Japanese Gardens. Large stones represent mountains, islands, and waterfalls, while smaller stones and gravel are used to decorate the outsides of ponds and streams. There is also sand which replaces water, in dry gardens.
Ponds, streams, and waterfalls are also elements of the gardens. Ponds are a central element of the gardens and the mostly represent real or mythical lakes or seas. They are also habitats for carps, which add additional color and life to the garden.
IN DRY GARDENS, PONDS, STREAMS, AND WATERFALLS ARE REPRESENTED BY RAKED GRAVEL, SAND, AND UPRIGHT STONE.
