WHY SHOULD WE USE THIS ELEMENT?

  • Organizes the essay more efficiently and creates a better flow that makes the essay more clear
  • Allows more room for expansion of ideas. Since you are only focused on one point, you have more room to expand on your ideas and explain them more in depth

HOW DO WE USE THIS ELEMENT?

  • Identify the main points of the essay
  • Assign each point to a separate paragraph

Example
Incorrect:
If the school day were to begin later, this would improve the attendance rates. Most kids prefer staying in bed than getting up at six, but if school started later they would be more likely to get up. Also, if school started later students would be more awake and focused, therefore improving their overall performance during the day.

Correct:
If the school day were to begin later, this would improve the attendance rates. Most kids prefer staying in bed than getting up at six, but if school started later they would be more likely to get up.
Another reason to push back the start of the school day is that students would be more awake and focused, therefore improving their overall performance during the day.

Untitled Slide

  • Separating the points into two paragraphs makes each idea more clear. The reader can better understand the point you are trying to make since they are only focusing on one idea at a time.

CONCLUSION

  • By distributing one point to its own paragraph, the essay becomes better organized, allows for more explanation, and causes the information to be more clear and easier to understand.
