AKKADIAN EMPIRE (2300-2100 B.C.E.)

  • Sargon was the first ruler of the Akkadian Empire.
  • Sargon conquered Sumer and united its city-states.
  • Sargon assembled a large army and taught them how to fight. They learned that using tight formations were the most effective.
  • The Akkadians created the worlds first empire.

AKKADIAN EMPIRE (2300-2100 B.C.E.)

  • Sargon ruled the empire for 56 years.
  • He also eventually made the city of Agade the capital.
  • The Akkadians also continued to use the culture of the Sumerians.
  • After about 200 years the Akkadian empire fell due to invaders from the north.

BABYLONIAN EMPIRE (1792-1595 B.C.E.)

  • Life in Babylon was in ways similar and in other ways a lot different.
  • Hammurabi made the Babylon god Marduk, supreme over other gods
  • During this time trade started to become more popular which ended up helping the economy tremendously.
  • As Babylon started to evolve women were allowed to own their own property and slaves could also buy their own freedom.

BABYLONIAN EMPIRE (1792-1595 B.C.E.)

  • King Hammurabi made Babylon the capital of his empire.
  • He was known for his code of laws which was carved on a stele.
  • Hammurabi proposed that the gods had told him to create laws that applied to everyone in the empire.
  • The empire was the most powerful state in the ancient world once the Assyrian empire fell.

ASSYRIAN EMPIRE (900-612 B.C.E.)

  • The Assyrians were feared by many other Empires. The Assyrian were very cruel and determined to win in battle. They had the strongest and most powerful military in all of Mesopotamia.
  • They were also the first empire to smelt iron to make into weapons used in their military. As well as make very complex war strategies.
  • As the Assyrian empire grew they began to rule many other empires which made of a lot of the Mesopotamia empire.

ASSYRIAN EMPIRE (900-612 B.C.E.)

  • The capital of Assyria is Nineveh
  • The Assyrians believed their kings were special human beings.
  • The Assyrians built special places to honor their kings as well as provide them with castles and lots of food and goods.
  • The Assyrians were also known for their bas-reliefs.

NEO-BABYLONIAN EMPIRE (605-539 B.C.E.)

  • Nebuchadnezzar II was the most famous king in the Neo-Babylonian Empire.
  • Nebuchadnezzar made inner walls and outer walls around the city to protect it from invaders.
  • The Neo-Babylon Empire conquered part of Canaan witch was the home of the Hebrews (known today as Jews)

NEO-BABYLONIAN EMPIRE (605-539 B.C.E.)

  • Nebuchadnezzar rebuilt the city Ziggurat and the Babylonians called it the "House of the Platform of Heaven and Earth".
  • Nebuchadnezzar also decorated his palace with gardens called the Hanging Gardens of Babylon.
  • He was known for his display and viewed as one of the great wonders of the ancient world.
