Innate Behaviors

  • Natural Instincts
  • Survival instincts without experience
  • Examples:
  • Simple instinct-a baby calf drinking milk from its mother
  • Complex-a spider naturally making a spider web

Learned behaviors

  • Changed behavior from experience
  • example- after a flood, a bird places its nest at a higher level
  • A dog learns that if it barks it will get food

Habitation

  • decreases or stops response to a repetitive stimulus that does not harm or benefit the animal
  • example- a horse ignores the flies that land on its body

Bad behavior

  • Most people believe that if an animal is aggresive or fearful they had been abused in their past.
  • Scientists have proven that an animals aggressiveness is not usually because of past trauma. There is a possibility that abuse is the reason but it is slim to none
  • An animals bad behaviour is usually most of the time 9 out of 10 a lack of socialization
  • Vets have proven that most animals can change. The sooner a pet owner or zoo worker can accept that bad behavior can be treated and an animal isn't neccessarily damaged forever.

Behaviour in sick animals

  • Behaviours that are most common for sick animals include: Lethargy, anorexia, depression, etc.
  • However one downside to animals is that some of them will pretend to be well when they are deathly ill. Which is why Vets recommend that animals get a regular check up.
  • Some animals may act very aggressive when they are sick with certain diseases.
  • Other animals will behave as if they are preparing themselves for death.
  • Animals that are ill may distance themseleves away from other animals and people.

The secret to well behaved animals

  • One way to have a dog with good behavior is to train him or her to come to you when called. However, don't call their name and then yell at them, because then they won't come to you because they will think their is something negative going on everytime their name is called. That is the first secret to having a well behaved dog.
  • Keeping any animal healthy can be step to having a well behaved animal.
  • Peristance is key. Patience is a virtue. Perserverence, and Passion are the four P's to having a well behaved animal constantly.
