SETTING

  • Central high school. May 17,1954, little rock

LITTLE ROCK

  • "Why do the white people write colored on the ugly drinking fountains etc"
  • This quote shows us that little rock people were not treated equal.

CENTRAL HIGH

  • "The unfamiliar surroundings reminded me of a museum"
  • The school seemed like a museum with the marble floors and big halls

MAIN CHARACTER

  • The main character is Melba Pattillo
  • Melba is a quite thoughtful girl who controls her actions.

MELBA

  • "I did it"
  • Melba is excited about beating the bullies.

MELBA

  • "Why didn't you do something?"
  • Melba is beginning to realize Danny is not there to fight for her.

CONFLICT

  • "WATCH OUT"
  • Melba is attacked by a group of boys as Danny tries to warn her

DANNY

  • Danny is a soldier who helps Melba
  • He looks out for her and stops the attacks

  • The segregationists threaten the children but have little effect.
  • The 9 children stay strong

CLIMAX

  • The climax of the story is when minijean pours chili on the white student.
  • That incident sparked the white kids into trying harder to get the negroes out.

RESOLUTION

  • The story is resolved when one of the 9 children graduates.
  • Them finishing the school year without being killed shows segregation is possible

EXPOSITION

  • The story is concluded with the 9 children returning to the school.
  • Upon their return they are greeted by the student president who is black.

SUMMARY

  • Warriors don't cry is about a group of 9 black children.
  • In the story these children go through a horrible ordeal of attacks.
  • The children's goal is to make segregation possible.

MELBA'S WHITE FRIEND

  • Melba meets a guy called link who rescues her from a attack.
  • Link gives Melba his car for her to get away from her attackers.
  • Link continues to help her by warning her of future attacks.

PROBLEMS

  • Melba must overcome the attacks of the whites
  • Melba is attacked physically and verbally

OVERALL THEME

  • The theme of this book is that segregation should have never have had to happen

OPINION

  • This was a good book because it shows the power of segregation
