Mission Statements

  • boldly states your organization’s core purpose-“Why do we exist?”
  • clearly articulates why your organization is special, what you do, and whom you do it for. written with concrete language and in the present tense.
  • pragmatic and crystal clear so your goals and objectives will have a strategic direction.

  • Where do we want the organization to go? What can we realistically achieve? What problem does the organization intend to solve? What are the changes we believe the organization can make for individuals? For the industry? How will things be different if the vision is realized? What phrases or keywords describe the type of organization and outcome we want?

  • Guide and ground how an organization thinks and behaves
  • Guide how decisions are made and successful relationships formed
  • Align with business practices
  • Easy to remember and actionable
  • Well defined--who we are (or want to be at our best)

To consider

  • Important to team? Are they being enacted daily by team?
  • Do they help guide people when making a decision?
  • Do they embody the parts of the work the team is most proud of?
  • Are they things you will still believe in years to come?
