  • He travelled to Asia to trade goods
  • He worked for Kublai Khan, the Emperor of Asia
  • He found and conquered new lands for Kublai Khan
  • He went across deserts
  • When Marco Polo was a little boy he explored Venice

WHEN DID MY EXPLORER GO EXPLORING?

  • In 1271, when he was 17 years old he travelled to Asia
  • Came back to Venice when he was 41
  • He worked for Kublai Khan (the Emperor) for 17 years and he was the ambassador

WHY DID MY EXPLORER GO EXPLORING?

  • He was curious
  • His dad just took him to trade goods
  • The Emperor sent him on trips around the Mongol Empire to learn more about the people and land he ruled
  • He traded spices, jewels and silk

HOW DID MY EXPLORER EXPLORE?

  • With big ships
  • Travelled by foot
  • Rode on horses
  • Food supplies
  • Maps
  • Warm clothing and water

HOW DID THINGS CHANGE IN THE WORLD AFTER MY EXPLORER'S EXPLORATIONS?

  • After his adventures in Asia he wrote a book called "The Description of the World"
  • This book helped people learn about the land and people in Asia
  • This book also inspired Christopher Columbus and Vasco da gama to travel to these lands

WHAT DO YOU THINK OF YOUR EXPLORER'S DISCOVERIES?

  • If he didn't do his explorations then less people would know about Asia and the places in it
  • I think his explorations were interesting
  • He is a risk taker because he explored Asia even though he knew it would be dangerous
  • He is open-minded because he wanted to learn about the new land and people living there
