THE VÈZELAY ABBEY

  • Also know as Vézelay, Church and Hill.
  • The Vézelay Abbey had been built in the 9th century.
  • It has been used by monks and kings. The Huguenots had damaged the building in the French Revolution.
  • The Vézelay Abbey was in danger of collapsing many times, but has been restored.
  • It is a great and beautiful treasure for all to treasure.

THE VÈZELAY ABBEY

  • The Vèzelay Abbey was a Benedictine and Cluniac monestery in Vézelay.
  • It is located in the Yonne department in Northern Burgundy France.
  • The Benedictine abbey church, is now the basilica Sainte-Marie-Madaleine.
  • The Benedictine Abbey church has complicated images with sculptures and portals.
  • The Vézelay Abbey is one of the outstanding masterpieces of Burgundian Romanesque art and architecture.

Address: 89450 Vézelay, France. 47° 27′ 59″ N, 3° 44′ 55″ E.
Located in the Yonne department in Northern Burgundy France.

The Vézelay of Abbey is a historic site for these reasons. The Benedictine abbey of Vézelay housed the relics of St. Mary Magdalene and ever since then it has been an important place of pilgrimage for religious people. With the buildings, sculpted capitals and portals, the Madeleine of Vézelay is a masterpiece of Burgundian Romanesque art and architecture.

THE CHURCH AND HILL AT VÉZELAY WAS ADDED TO THE UNESCO LIST OF WORLD HERITAGE SITES IN 1979.

People may visit the sight by traveling to France and exploring their travel options.

The Vézelay Abbey should be a World Heritage site, because it shows the great architectural advances back in that time. It tells the people of their history and battles to restore and keep the beautiful artwork. It is a working, functioning and beautiful piece of history and it should be shared, respected and known around the world.
