• The accused had their hands and feet tied together. They were then thrown into water. If they floated they were guilty but if they sank they were innocent.

Stealing

• Extra work and fines were prohibbeted or the hands of the guilty were cut off

Ordeals by fire

• Had to walk a distance around 9 feet either by holding a red hot iron or over a red hot plough share.

Ordeal by combat

• The two parties had to fight and whoever won was considered innocent.

Murderers

• Given the death penalty by hanging or beheading

High Treason

• The culprit was hung and cut down while he was still alive
