Goal: Design and build a mechanical "robotic" hand model with moving fingers

  • plastic glove
  • String
  • Rubber bands
  • Pipe cleaners
  • Kleenex
  • Tissue paper

Constraints

  • 1 plastic glove
  • 2 feet of string
  • 5 rubber bands
  • 5 pipe cleaners
  • 15 kleenex or 2 tissue papers

Constraints - continued

  • The hand must have moveable fingers and thumb. Each finger should move independently and all together. It does not have to grasp, but it can!

Concepts to consider...

  • How does the human hand work?
  • How does a mechanical hand work?
  • Would the fingers move independently?
  • Would the fingers bend? (ligaments, tendons, muscles)

So I'm not here to answer questions but you know the drill. I suggest you work in groups of 2 - 3, go find some ideas, look at your hand...
