The Society of Jesus, or the Jesuits, was founded by Saint Ignatius of Loyola and a few others. The following slides contain information about those people and the amazing things they accomplished.

IGNATIUS OF LOYOLA

  • Spanish priest and theologian
  • Founded the Society of Jesus(jesuits)
  • Beatified in 1609; Canonized March 12, 1622

FRANCES XAVIER

  • Roman Catholic missionary
  • Co-founder of the Society of Jesus(jesuits)
  • Took vows of poverty and chastity at Montmarte, Paris

PETER FABER

  • The first Jesuit priest and theologian
  • Admitted to the Collège Sainte-Barbe, the oldest school in the University of Paris
  • His feast day is August 2nd

ALOYSIUS GONZAGA

  • Italian aristocrat who became a member of the Society of Jesus
  • Aloysius gave up all rights to his inheritance to become a Jesuit
  • Aloysius suffered from kidney diseases, skin diseases, chronic headache, and insomnia

JOHN BERCHMANS

  • He was a Jesuit scholastic
  • He is the patron saint of alter servers
  • He was beatified in 1865 and canonized January 15, 1888

These saints were important in the Society of Jesus. They founded and help build the basic beliefs of the Jesuits.
