• William Henry Gates was born on October 28, 1955
• Bill read the entire encyclopedia and the World Book
• Bill memorized the 17 page long Sermon on the Mount Bible passage

Lakeside Whiz Kid

• Bill went to a private school called Lakeside for seventh-grade
• Lakeside had a computer room, but with no computer , because computers didn't really exist yet(there was mainframe computers though)
• In the room was a Teletype(does not say what it is)
• Bill became obsessed with the Teletype and read all of the manual books
• Him and 7 other students learn all they could about the Teletype and soon they knew more than the teachers
• The teachers had planned to teach the kids about the Teletype, but instead the kids taught the teachers about it
• Bill had finally found his passion

Learning A New Language

• Bill formed a computer club with his pals
• In the club they wrote their own programs, which is a set of instructions for the computer
• Bill was 13 when he wrote his first program, which was playing tic-tac-toe
• The Teletype was expensive: $89 a month and in addition $8 an hour(It was so expensive that you could buy 66 comic books for $8
• Soon Bill and a friend named Paul wrote a program called Traf-O-Data and earned $20,000
• In 1973, Bill graduated from Lakeside School and was ready to go to the famous Harvard University
