Domestic violence and emotional abuse are behaviors used by one person in a relationship to control the other. The partners may be married or not married; living together, separated or dating.

  • Name-calling or putdowns
  • Keeping a partner from contacting their family member or friend
  • Actually or threatened physical harm
  • Stalking
  • Intimidation

Domestic Violence's effects on family life.

Domestic violence also has a substantial effect on family members, especially children. Understanding domestic violence and being able to support survivors can also impact the 15.5 million children who are exposed to the violence in the home each year.
