Adjective

Word/words that describe a noun.

Adverb

Words that describe verbs! Answer when,where or how?

Pronoun

Is a word that can take the place of a noun.

Mrs Pommer was late to school.
She was late to school.

Possessive Pronoun

Pronoun that replace possessive pronoun (they never use apostrophes) (').

Go clean your room.
The dog has its leash.

verb

A word that tell us what the subject (noun) is doing. (physical or mental).

Linking Verb

A verb that "links" the subject to what it is doing.

Appositive

Extra information about noun or subject you can take it out of the sentence and it will make sense. Commas are needed.

Verb Tenses

When the action take place (present, Past, Future).

I was tossing the ball to my friend.

Present= happening now
Ex)= toss = tosses
past= all ready happened
Ex)= toss=tossed
Future= it's going to happen (the verb)
Ex)= will toss will sing

  • add (-s -es -ing)
  • sing= singing
  • add(-ed)
  • *sing= sung*
  • add will before

Comparative adjective

Compares 2 item of action (-er or more).

She is smaller than her sister.
He was more scared than his sister.

Superlative Adjective

Compare 3 or more item (-est or most)syllable.

She is the smallest in her class.
He was the most frightened at the house.

Independent Clause

A complete thought and can stay alone (has subject and verb).

The boy move.

The cat went to get a drink.

Dependent Clause

Can not stand alone ( does not make sense) start with a subordinating conianction.

Because he can.

Since she can.

Preposition

Connects a noun or pronoun to another word and tell us where or when.

He went to the store.

Prepositional Phrases

A group of words use to connect the preposition to noun/pronoun.

The ball bounced on the son.
My brother and I wanted to go the pool.
