GULF WAR

• Refugees went to Turkish and a Iranian borders
• US creates secure zone to convince Iraq Kurds to go back to home country (only partly successful)
• Millions of refugees in past 20 years

AFGHANISTAN INVASION

• Invaded by Soviet Union
• Refugees went to Iran (2.5 mil) and Pakistan (3.7 mil)
• Most refuse to come back because Taliban in control and Afghanistan weak in power
• US helps Muslim with weapons, results in Soviet withdrawal

TALIBAN

• Islamic Fundamentalist Movement
• Took control of Afghanistan by having strict Muslim rules and suppressing factional conflicts
• Some refugees came back, most left once again
