PRESENTATION OUTLINE

Ms Maudie

Miss Maudie Atkinson - The Finches’ neighbor, a sharp-tongued widow, and an old friend of the family. Miss Maudie is almost the same age as Atticus’s younger brother, Jack. She shares Atticus’s passion for justice and is the children’s best friend among Maycomb’s adults.

KEY POINTS

  • Her house burnt to the ground and she pretended that she didn't care dor the children's sake.
  • She explained what the quote "kill all the bluejays you want, but its a sin to kill a mockingbird"
  • To scout and jem.

Quotes ~ "There are just some kind of men who—who're so busy worrying about the next world they've never learned to live in this one, and you can look down the street and see the results." (5):

Miss Maudie's talking about Nathan Radley here, but also about his fellow foot-washing Baptists who think she's going to hell for making her garden pretty.

Jem and Scout count Miss Maudie as a friend because, unlike most adults, she treats them with respect. Just like Atticus, who she says is "the same in his house as he is on the public streets" (5) Miss Maudie acts the same to children as she does to adults like atticus.

"Stephanie Crawford even told me once she woke up in the middle of the night and found him looking in the window at her. I said what did you do, Stephanie, move over in the bed and make room for him? That shut her up a while." (5)

This shows that miss Maudie does not like gossip and also wants boo radley to be left alone and not gossiped about.
