FOUNDATIONS

  • The King of England gave william land
  • He was given the land because the king owed him.
  • William wanted to set up a colony with religious freedom
  • Pennsylvania was for those who were in search for religious freedom.

COLONIES PEOPLE

  • Lutherans, Protestants and even amish followed
  • People who have been prosecuted for religion follow him
  • Slaves even made up 20 percent of the colony.

CLIMATE AND ECONOMY

  • It had fertile soil and rolling hills.
  • Hot in the summer and cold in the winter.
  • Most colonists were farmers or merchants.
  • Some took the lumber business or blacksmith.

  • Pennsylvania encouraged people seeking religious freedom.
  • Penn labeled the capital Philadelphia
  • Philadelphia was the "City of Brotherly Love"

POLITICS AND GOVERNMENT

  • Pennsylvania offered political freedom
  • Men elected 200 representatives to general assembly.
