Aristotle

  • He was a Greek philosopher
  • he believed earth was the center of all things.
  • He placed the moon,sun,planet and stars on a series of circles around earth.
  • he came up with parallax
  • parallax can be seen with a naked eye

Aristarchus

  • He was a Greek astronomer and mathematician
  • He made a heliocentric model of the solar system
  • He wanted to measure the distance from the moon and the sun
  • His discovery is useful in solving a scientific problem

Ptolemy

  • he was an astronomer and geographer and mathematician
  • he lived in Alexandria Egypt
  • he made a book Almagest
  • he believed every planet spun around earth
  • he created a geocentric model,it was used foe 14 centuries

Copernicus

  • he was a polish astronomer
  • he believed Ptolemy model was wrong
  • he used a wheels on wheels system
  • his design was seen as the first real model
  • he put the sun in the middle of everything

Kepler

  • he was a German mathematician and astronomer
  • Kepler found the ellipses best fit
  • he founded the Kepler laws
  • planets move faster in their orbits closer to sun
  • He also related the distance between the planet and son

Galileo

  • he was a scientist
  • He made improvements to the telescope
  • He would view celestial objects
  • the moons are known as the Galilean satellites
  • he observed that Venus had similar phases as earths moon
