HOW CAN WE OVERCOME SELFISHNESS?

My essential question for the novel Ethan Frome by Edith Wharton is “How can we overcome selfishness” This psychological topic really interested me and I was excited to learn more about it.

In a article I read called What Causes Selfishness? How to Deal With Selfish People” states the many different ways people can be selfish. Dealing with these type of people, of course, will always be challenging, so it is important to understand what causes them to act the way they do. Throughout the article are many tips for people to eliminate their selfishness, for example, one solution is to simply recognize your actions and therefore push harder to ensure that you are fairly treated. Being selfish is something many people struggle with, but I believe that this can be fixed with a help.

In my opinion everyone can be selfish in different types of ways. I also believe that if you pray about it and really try to get rid of this sin, God will help you over come it.

Often times we notice when other people are being selfish to us, we notice when they put themselves and their own interests before ours but we rarely notice when the shoe is on the other foot. James chapter 3 says, verses 16 to 18:
“For where there is envy or selfish ambition there will also be disorder and wickedness of every kind. But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without a trace of partiality or hypocrisy. And a harvest of righteousness is sown in peace for those who make peace.” It can be very difficult to give up the sin of selfishness but when you do, good things will come your way.
