WHO WAS VASCO DA GAMA?

  • Born in 1469 and died in India on December 24, 1524
  • Dad's name was Estavao
  • Brothers name was Paulo
  • He was the first European to reach India by sea.

WHAT DID HE DO?

  • He sailed 27,000 miles over the ocean
  • He sailed four times more than Christopher Columbus in 1492
  • He mapped many unknown lands and undiscovered waters
  • He discovered an ocean route from Portugal to the Far East

WHERE DID HE DO HIS EXPLORATIONS?

  • He sailed from Lisbon to St. Helena
  • He sailed from the Cape of Good Hope to Mozambique.
  • He also sailed to Calicut

WHEN DID THE EXPLORER GO EXPLORING?

  • In 1492 he sailed from Portugal to the Far East
  • He did most of his explorations between 1497 and 1499

WHY DID HE GO EXPLORING?

  • he was sent by king Manuel and king John the third
  • They sent him to the far East in search of riches, spices and jewels

  • I think Vasco da GAMA was a risk taker because he sailed to many unknown waters not knowing if he was safe or not
  • I think Vasco Da Gama was knowledgeable because he needed to know and figure out were he was going
