PRESENTATION OUTLINE
wHAT IS IT...
- Obituaries are final messages that represent the deceased, and inform the public about who they were and what they contributed or how they will be remembered, HOWEVER satirical obituaries make light humor about the passing away and are normally heavily densed with sarcasm.
Why i chose it
- Different
- The style represents such contrast with humor against death
- Shows when and where the level of a joke is accepted
- Doesn't consist of long poetic language (which I normally write in)
tHE MAKE UP OF AN OBITUARY ...
- An image of the dead so that the reader can empathize with the text, but can also distinguish the individual beyond the text.
- A small caption retelling the incident about when the death occured.
- The individual's characteristics should be mentioned, but opposed with humor.
.....
- Respect, regardless if the piece is humorous
- Sarcasm should be overused, but still respectful
- And finally the piece should include life 'accomplishments'
iNTERESTING RESEARCH FINDINGS...
......
- The obituaries were short and sweet
- Every excerpt had an image
- The writing honored the 'person' even if they're evil
- the 'person' can be any character or idea that has passed away
- Repetition of their 'positive' qualities
- REALISTIC!!!
That when alive the subject can be disgraced, but when dead the same disgrace must be reworded into respect
obituary for, dear stepmother
Another form of the genre......
- Satirical obituaries can also be a death notice to an idea; (smoking, voting or race.)
- These ideas just need to have been socially shunned and have had negative impacts upon the world.
- These obituaries can be in forms of comics, found in newspapers, or political banter represented by the media.
death notice to the idea of...
My experience was rather different to my normal styles of writing, for normally I visualise death as deep and dark, yet here I was making it a joke....
