Boar Goat

  • developed in South Africa in the early 1900s
  • Used for meat
  • name derived from the Afrikaans word "boer" meaning farmer

Boar Goat

  • breeding season starts in August and runs through december
  • light colored body and distinctive red head

Boar Goats

  • large, double muscled animal
  • at maturity, they weigh 200 to 350 for males
  • 120 to 200 for females

Boar Goat

  • hardy, adaptable and easy to handle
  • they resemble a Nubian goat

Nubian Goat

  • The breed was developed in Great Britain
  • can live in very hot climates
  • have a longer breeding season than other dairy goat

Nubian Goat

  • large, pendulous ears
  • a "roman nose"
  • considered a dairy or dual purpose breed

Nubian Goat

  • known for their high butterfat content of their milk
  • produces less milk than other dairy cows
