PRESENTATION OUTLINE

Meiosis 1

Prophase 1

  • Pairs of homologous chromosomes intertwine and the process called crossing over occurs as chromatids from homologous pairs of chromosomes swap genetic information.

Prophase 1

Metaphase 1

  • The pairs of duplicated chromosomes line up in the center of the cell

Metaphase 1

Anaphase 1

  • The centromere of each chromatid pair becomes attached to one spindle fiber, so they don't separate

Anaphase 1

Telophase 1

  • The cytoplasm divides, and two new cells form

Telophase 1

Meiosis 11

Prophase 11

  • The duplicated chromosomes and spindle fibers reappear in each new cell

Prophase 11

Metaphase 11

  • The duplicated chromosomes move to the center of the cell

Metaphase 11

Anaphase

  • Centromere divides

Anaphase 11

Telophase

  • The spindle fibers disappear, and a nuclear membrane forms around each set of chromosomes
