PRESENTATION OUTLINE

MY WELLNESS PLAN

BY MELISSA EBELING

THE IMPORTANCE OF MANAGING STRESS

  • Being a teacher is an extremely stressful position. Without taking time to manage stress, we will:
  • Have higher health costs
  • Tax our personal relationships
  • Effect our students and the learning environment we are creating.

BASIC NEEDS

  • If we don't work to meet our most basic needs we will be stuck in an endless cycle of stress and unhappiness.

BELONGING
Choosing to spend time with people who help support my goals and aspirations, personally and professionally. I am signing up for a half marathon and I will be spending time with people who are training for the same thing. Some of them are teachers and that will help create a great bonding experience.

SIGNIFICANCE

  • To feel significance I will start accepting the compliments I receive a bit more readily.
  • I will take time to celebrate the small and large milestones that my students and my school make.
  • I will celebrate my accomplishment of goals inside and outside the classroom.

COMPETENCE

  • I will TRUST MYSELF AS A TEACHER!!!
  • Take what the lessons say with a grain of salt and evaluate what my students need and want and GIVE IT TO THEM.

FUN

  • To meet my need to have fun I will create lessons that are fun and engaging and not just cookie cutter.
  • I will add time into my 40 minute lessons that allow me to connect with my students regardless OR inclusive of the objective.

BALANCE

  • To meet a more meaningful balance in my life I will fill my schedule with the non-negotiables first.
  • Signing up for the half-marathon will help me focus on my exercise first, especially for the summer; then filling in the rest from there.

Personal wellness is the foundation of good teaching. It is important for us as teachers and human beings to take care of ourselves first so that we may then in turn be able to take care of others with the care they deserve.
