This was several weeks after the battle of Chancellorsville in may 1863. They were having a music interlude.

Both teams came together to hear the music of the federal band. The band began to play home sweet home no one said a single word as people from both teams were thinking of their loved ones.

Structure


The rhyme scheme was abab. And how it separated into stanzas.

Poetic elements

The poem some poetic elements like similes, metaphors and a lot of imagery. These elements gives the readers a better description on what's happening and it's easier for the reader to visualize what's going on in the poem.

Meaning

Not everything was one big happy fairy tale, this is the meaning because everyone expects life to be amazing and happy even though they don't realize what actually is going on .
