Slide Notes

I call it an annotation multiverse because it is a bit like a zillion universes of dialogue in which you can use not only words, but images, animated gifs, video, and soundfiles to make notes on digital, online objects.

This capacity was built into the very first Mosaic graphic browser by its creator Marc Andreeson, but later stripped out. It has taken twenty years to begin to add universal annotation back into the browser.

I, for one, am very glad they did. And by they I mean Hypothesis

Annotation Multiverse

I call it an annotation multiverse because it is a bit like a zillion universes of dialogue in which you can use not only words, but images, animated gifs, video, and soundfiles to make notes on digital, online objects.

This capacity was built into the very first Mosaic graphic browser by its creator Marc Andreeson, but later stripped out. It has taken twenty years to begin to add universal annotation back into the browser.

I, for one, am very glad they did. And by they I mean Hypothesis

James Still's "Heritage"

I wanted to do a quick, close read of one of my favorite poems, James Still's "Heritage".
Hypothes.is was perfect for the job.

One of the most compelling uses for Hypothes.is is as a personal learning network of one or a dozen. You can just explore for yourself or you can invite others in or you can get groups to create their own close readings.

Out of the Shadows

Annotating a blog post
Here is a blog post from a fellow teacher in France, Simon Ensor:

http://tachesdesens.blogspot.com/2016/11/out-of-shadows.html

Here is the annotation site address if you do not have Hypothes.is installed where you can read but not add comments:

Remember. It's like the Lottery. To win you gotta play. Except this is free and the odds payout is totally in your favor.

Annotation Flash Mob

You have heard of flash dance mobs? Well, you do flash annotation mobs, too.

Here is one we did with Troy Hicks. He has a new book, but this article is an interview from a few years ago. Well worth getting together especially since he agreed to put himself on the line and be there, too.

Generating Writing

Using Hypothes.is to blog
Here is a link to an interview with one of my favorite standup comedians/story tellers, Mike Birbiglia. There was so much fun in this article I just decided to begin responding to it via Hypothes.is:

Playing with Yer Homies

My buddy Kevin Hodgson and I sometimes just get together and 'riff' to the tune of an article we both like. I love this adhoc, improvisational aspect of Hypothes.is. We do it because we like doing it--sorta like teaching.

Large Scale Annotation

Earlier this year the folks at Hypothes.is got together with the NWP and a few other organizations to annotate President Obama's last State of the Union speech. You can find a transcript of the speech here:

Here is the annotated version:

And here is super blog post about the experience on the Hypothes.is website. Read it and enjoy:
