2.
Bias in Spawn
A leaders decision for his people can change where they live.
Each civilization lives where the leader decided, usually to match needs.
Political states need for, so they will settle near fertile land.
All of this goes into consideration in the game and decides your spawn place.
Your spawn is decided due to what your needs are and qualities your civilization would have.

4.
Diplomacy
Contacting other civs can be tedious.
Other civs can be hostile or friendly.
Their reaction to you can determine trading options.
War can also affect your relationship with another civ.
Religion is an important factor. Sharing faith brings happiness to civs.
5.
Culture
Culture is influenced by citizens' happiness.
By having pop culture or influential civics, you can keep them happy.
Happiness also increases work force, overall labor and production, and growth.
Having great artist or pop culture figures increases happiness as well.
6.
Science
As you progress in city structure, you need more science to know how.
Buildings can increase healthiness.
The sciences you choose can influence what you can build.
The wrong technology can be devastating, an example in real life.
Science can influence happiness as well by providing a sense of achievement
7.
History
A nation's history greatly affects the attributes it has in Civ.
If they were destroyed by hordes of barbarians, then many units will come for you.
If your nation's history shows you to be futile, there will be lots of tension in trade.
Peaceful nation's tend to spawn away from others and have limited trade.
8.
Religion
Religion will also affect the people's happiness.
Having no certain religion will have little effect on you.
Choosing a religion can cause disputes with civs of different religions.
Religion can also lead to increased trade with civs of the same religion.
Religion affects production in cities where that religion is spread.
9.
Connection
Real world history affects multiple parts of gameplay.
Choosing the nation and leader affects your spawn and a nation's attributes.
History can decide the fate of your nation by reacting to your decisions to meet history.
Every decision makes the game change to fit historical events.
