THE SAHARA DESERT
It is also referred to as "the Great Desert"
It's the world's hottest desert and the third largest desert
It is over 3,600,000 sq. miles and covers most of North Africa
Some of the sand dunes can reach 590 ft tall

LAKE CHAD
It is a historically large, shallow, endorehiec lake west of Chad
It has shrunken as much as 95% from 1963-1998 but has shown significant improvements recently
The lake provides water to move to more than 30 million people
It's the largest lake in the Chad Basin

THE ORANGE RIVER
It's also known as the Gariep River, the Groote River or the Senqu River
It is the longest river in South Africa
It provides water for irrigation and hydroelectric power for South Africa
The river is 1,367 miles in length

THE NAMIB DESERT
It is a coastal desert located in South Africa
The word Namib means "vast place"
It stretches over 1,200 miles along the Atlantic coast
The highest point is Brandberg MountIn which is 8,550 ft above elevation

THE ATLAS MOUNTAINS
This mountain range is located on the northwestern side of Africa
It stretches around 1,600 miles
The highest point is Toubkal with the elevation of 13,672 ft
The mountains are home to many unique plants and animals

THE NILE RIVER
It's the longest river in the world at 4,258 miles long
It has two major tributaries-the White Nile and the Blue Nile
The northern section flows through mostly desert
It ends in a large delta that emptied into the Mediterranean Sea

THE HORN OF AFRICA
It is a peninsula in a East Africa
It covers about 770,000 sq. miles of land
The area is inhabited by about 1 million people
Some countries in the Horn of Africa are Sudan, Djibouti! and Somalia

THE GULF OF GUINEA
It is located in the Arabian Sea
It connects with the Red Sea
It's parts of the Suez Canal
It is also known as "Pirate Alley" due to the large amounts of pirate activity
