Find your files

Go to your computer, find the file or folder, copy it (see notes).
To find your files, you will need to go to the main source... My computer or Computer or possibly hard drive - you might have them in My Documents. You can open the desktop shortcut to find your files, but DO NOT copy the shortcut on your desktop screen (that is just a shortcut, not the actual file).

To copy your file or folder, click on your file or folder, click Control+C (on a MAC Command+C).

Flashdrive option

Plug in and open your flash, paste files using control+V or Command+V

DropBox option

Create a free account in the cloud and upload your files.
You can also drag your files into Dropbox, but please DO NOT use the shortcut on your desktop. Go to the source of your files: My Computer, Computer, My Documents, or at least open the shortcut and drag the files from there.

Server Option

Use your home directory and move your files to the server.
Paste your files (using Control-V or Command-V) onto your home directory if your school or company has a server. At WCPSS, we will automatically move this for you as it's in the WCPSS "cloud." Again, do not drag and drop or copy from desktop shortcuts!! Always go to the source Let WCPSS protect your stuff.

We've got unlimited storage... you can't beat that!

Go to your Drive, click the red "new" button, and the "upload a folder" option. Choose the folder you wish to upload to your Drive, upload all the files. Check on a different computer to make sure all of your files are actually there.

Choose Three

I like the rule of 3... save your stuff in multiple places.

Do Not Copy Shortcuts

Did you read the small notes in the previous slides?

Be WISE and double check using another computer.

Go to another computer and pull up your dropbox account or login to get to your home directory or plug in your flash drive. If your files are there (in any of the 3 locations), then you saved them properly.
