Louisiana Purchase
The Louisiana Purchase was important for the history of America.
The United States of America bought this vast land from the French.
They payed 15 million dollars to the French, for this piece of land.
Thomas Jefferson bought this land.

LEWIS AND CLARK'S EXPEDITION
Lewis and Clark went on a big expedition.
They set out to collect and record valuable information.
On their journey they met someone named Sacajawea.
They returned back from their journey in September of 1806.
They also were looking for the geography of the west.

THE SECOND GREAT AWAKENING
The second great awakening had an big effect on the republic.
People started to better their lives and improve the society.
Many Americans were influenced by the awakening.
It also had an effect on art, music, and architecture.

Southern AMERICAN LIFE
The American life was very rough in those days.
Southerners lived on small farms or large plantations.
They were widely spread from each other.
They focused on slavery and selling cash crops.
Slavery was the main focus for the southern people.

American Music and Art
One artist was George Caleb Bingham
He painted fur traders and political speakers
One musician was Stephen C. Foster

Americans developed own architecture
They used classical style from Greece
They also used styles from Rome
This became the model for all the buildings

LIFE IN THE NORTHERN AND WESTERN CITIES
There were small industries
They made and produced items
In the west there were pioneers
There were only a couple roads
