PRESENTATION OUTLINE
TOP THREEE RESONS ROME FELL
The Roman Empire was invaded from both the east and the west. These invasions and wars were extremely costly for the Romans. It was hard for them to keep up financially and militarily when they were invaded first by the Germanic tribes and then the Sassanid Persians, and lastly on both sides by the Huns. They were at a disadvantage and the economy depleted from the amount of invasions overall deteriorating the empire.
The loyalty of the military troops was to their generals. This disparaging loyalty away from the Romans weakened the army and country. The system of which they were being paid was by the general or person that offered them the most for serving. All focus went to the general and the Romans had no control over them which is key to success in war. The way that this worked was based on availability of resources and money, once the economy started to fail so did the military. There wasn't money to pay the soldiers and when there is no military structure there is no defense leading to a fall in leadership and empire.
Larger is not always better in the case of the Romans. They were able to conquer a massive area, but even with the systems of roads they weren't able to maintain control and keep up with the expansiveness. As the empire expanded the amount of soldiers increased which meant more pay checks. The economy of Rome however didn't change. They weren't able to pay these soldiers efficiently. The money that was put towards the soldier left nothing comparable for the structure and maintenance of the empire itself. Without a foundation to build upon the Roman Empire fell to its death.
