PRESENTATION OUTLINE
Teaching Kids How to Think
Welcome! We are excited to learn with you! These slides will explain what can be accomplished the next few months in our class.
This is an online class that will be facilitated through the Canvas interface.
We will also be using ThingLink, an online bookmarking
site to direct you to the links you will need to use for your assignments.
In this class you will learn how to broaden student understanding of mathematical knowledge by incorporating Math and STEM tasks. You will learn to develop a student’s ability to work independently, with a partner, with a group and as a whole class. We will discuss the use of effective strategies for journaling, and other presentations methods. You will also learn how to help students share their strategies and discuss mathematical ideas with their peers.
Syllabus Requirements:
Internet Access
Canvas Access
An open mind
Willingness to share
Assignments:
There are 5 modules. Each module will include a reading assignment and a one page paper response.
There will be materials that you will need to review and evaluate. You will write a peer discussion entry on a given topic and also have peer discussions, including responding to two peers of your choice. Throughout the course you will be given tasks to help guide you through the final project.
Final Project:
You will be preparing a task based lesson and a STEM based project to share with your students. You will evaluate the effectiveness of the lessons and how your students participated. You will submit the lesson plans and the evaluation paper at the end of the course.
Head back to the Adobe Connect room for a discussion and a Q&A session. :)
