GENRE

The genre of my book is fiction.

SETTING

  • The setting of my book is on the Hayworth JV and varsity baseball fields,
  • in and around the Boyd's adoption house, and in and around the Crandall's
  • House (his adoptive parents house). This story takes place in the spring
  • during baseball season.

FIRST CHARACTER AND DESCRIPTION

  • My first character is Nick. Nick was adopted by the Crandall's and is now Nick Crandall.
  • Nick loves to play baseball and is a catcher on the JV team but also got to play up
  • For varsity for a while.

SECOND CHARACTER AND DESCRIPTION

  • My second character is Gracie Wright. Gracie is One of Nick's best friends.
  • She lives across the street from Nick and she spends as much time in
  • Nick's house as he does in her's.

THIRD CHARACTER AND DESCRIPTION

  • My third character is Jack Elmore. Jack is Nick's other best friend. He's not
  • as close as Gracie but is still a great friend, and he's on Nick's team when Nick
  • Played up for varsity baseball.

FOURTH CHARACTER AND DESCRIPTION

  • My fourth character is Gary Watson. Gary is the pitcher on the varsity baseball team and is
  • Nick's enemy. Gary is the star on the team and is one of the leaders on the team.

FIFTH CHARACTER AND DESCRIPTION

  • My fifth character is Bobby Mazzilli. Bobby was the starting catcher for varsity until
  • he broke a bone in his wrist at practice. Since Bobby couldn't play, that's how
  • Nick got to play up for varsity.

THEME

  • The theme of my book is about a boy that was adopted and loves to play baseball.
  • The lesson in my book is that even if your smaller, bigger things can come
  • Out of it.

CONFLICT/PROBLEM

  • The conflict in my book is that when Nick plays up for varsity,he tries to do everything
  • perfect and ends up not being able to do anything right except mess up. When
  • he does this, the varsity team laughs at him and he makes a fool of himself.

RESOLUTION

  • The resolution to the conflict is that instead of thinking where to throw
  • the ball,Nick just threw the ball with all he had. In the end ,the ball went where he wanted
  • it to go and he did a great job and started throwing people out.

SUMMARY

  • This story is about a 12 year old boy who has been in an orphanage since he was
  • a baby. He was then adopted by the Crandall's and had a real home. Even though
  • they weren't the baseball parents he dreamed of, he loved them. Nick played for the
  • Hayworth JV baseball team, but since Bobby Mazzilli broke his wrist, Nick got to play
  • up for varsity. Because of this, Nick got to play against the Kings that they lost to

  • the past 10 times in a row. In the end, Hayworth ended up beating the
  • Kings 4-3. After this win though, Nick had to go back down and play for
  • JV because Bobby's hand had healed.

CHARACTER I'M MOST LIKE AND WHY.

  • The character I'm most like is Jack Elmore because he is a great
  • Friend. He's also on a baseball team with his friend's just like
  • I am. I know everyone on my baseball team just like Jack Elmore does.
  • I'm also like him because I play second base like he does.

MY FAVORITE AND LEAST FAVORITE PART OF THE BOOK

  • My favorite part of the book is when Nick got to play up for varsity and got
  • to beat King. This is my favorite part of the book because the previous 10 years,
  • Hayworth had lost to the Kings. My least favorite part of the book is when Nick had
  • to go back to JV. I don't like this part because Nick had to leave right when he started
  • getting better but how he had to leave halfway through the season.

LIFE EVENT

  • A life event I can relate to is when I got moved up in baseball. I moved up a league
  • and it was a lot harder than the year before. I knew very little people like Nick only
  • knew one person (Jack Elmore). But near the end I got better like Nick did, and I
  • started to know more people.

ADOPTIVE

  • —Used to describe a parent who has adopted a child.
  • -Nick's adoptive parent's names are Mr and Mrs Crandall.

FOSTER

  • —Used to describe a situation in which for a period of time a child lives with
  • and is cared for by people who are not the child's parents.
  • -People who are in the adoption process are often foster parents first.

INTENTIONAL

  • —Done in a way that was planned or intended.
  • -Gary intentionally hit Nick in the back when he was trying to steal.

BATTING AVERAGE

  • —A number that shows how often a batter gets a hit.
  • -Nick's batting average is a .225 on his varsity baseball team.
