DICTATE (dict)
Verb
To speak or read something to a person who writes down; to decree

"I am going to dictate this code one more time, so write it down, including you, Ella!" yelled Mr. Deckers while looking at Ella, who was texting on her phone.

CONTRADICT (dict)
Verb
To say the opposite of something that someone else has said; to deny the truth

Ella hid her phone and Mr. Deckers took her into the hallway: "Where is your phone Ella..." Ella wanted to contradict him, so she did, and got in trouble.

EDICT (dict)
Noun
An official order given by a person with power or by a government.

Ella's class was a soccer team, so they got dressed for their big match, when Mr. Deckers made an edict that phones were banned from class.

AUTOBIOGRAPHY (graph)
Noun
A person's life story written by that person

Ella's school day was over, and she felt she was hated so she grabbed an
autobiography, sat in the car, and started reading it glumly.

A message sent by telegraph and then delivered in written or printed form; sometimes referred to as a wire or cable.

Later on that day, Ella received a telegram that her sister was in a three day meeting and that she would see her within 3-5 days.

Ella loved writing in Chinese, because her mother was born in China, and Mr. Deckers asked someone to write calligraphy in a different language on the board with paint the next day.

Shown or described in a very clear way, used especially to refer to things that are unpleasant or shocking.

"Ella,"whispered Mr. Smith, the principal, "You've failed 12th grade... You failed your tests," and the graphic info sank in.

Ella's sister was walking home from her meeting when she came across an inscription on a black sign.

A written, printed, or typed copy of words that have been spoken

Later, Ella's class was doing a play, so they received a transcript for their part, and Ella was the bug that got killed in the beginning.

A written message from a doctor that officially tells a patient what medicine to take

In the play, the kid that "squished" Ella, kicked Ella's spine, so she had to go get a prescription from her doctor.
