Shock is ...

  • failure of circulatory system
  • Psychological shock can mask other issues
  • Hypovolemic = loss of volume
  • Physiological shock isn’t field treatable
  • ID and slowing onset
  • Immediate evacuation

Still Shocking

  • Most common is hypovolemic shock
  • MOI to determine location/cause
  • Psychological (fight or flight) mimics Physiological (deal with former)
  • Signs - skin still pale & cool, pulse @ or 100+, nausea, dry mouth, thirsty, anxious

Treatment

  • Reduce circulation workload
  • Stop bleeds
  • Splint fractures
  • Taco - keep as warm as possible
  • Hydrate (electrolytes)
  • Raise legs if needed

Use a distracting pain to mask a subtle internal bleed.
Use increase signs to indicate hypovolemic shock.
